Palladio

Palladio, like Kepler from the last blog post, is a software that combines geospatial data and mapping. Out of the two, I actually found Palladio to be somewhat easier, but it still has a similarly tough learning curve and it took some asking for advice before I could actually do the sample work with Palladio.

When it came down to it though, Palladio’s software actually worked with errors which is amazing from a user point of view. Palladio as had the feature to create these graphs from the data that connected circles of various sizes so you could see connections between different aspects of the data. I found it interesting to look at the graphs, but I think in general that if I have to work with geospatial work, I prefer to do actual maps because it easier for me to read and see connections. For instance some types of data have so much overlap that the visual graph of circles just looks like a mass of circles and you can’t really pick out the individual connections.

As I said in my last post, geospatial history is pretty cool, you get to see how locations impacted events and vice versa. Unfortunately, I just don’t think that it’s my type of history and I have a hard time being interested in it compared to some of the earlier softwares we used in the digitization unit.
